ABOUT THE BUSINESS:

Beastly Books is a speculative fiction, indie bookstore founded and owned by famous author George R.R. Martin. The bookstore is known internationally for offering autographed, rare and first edition books as well as collectibles.

The Santa Fe bookstore also boasts a coffee shop and regularly hosts events such as game nights and book signings. The bookstore aims to be a welcoming venue for all and prides itself on being a community hub for misfits, nerds and all extraordinary people.

ABOUT THE BRANDING:

The goal of the rebrand was to elevate the branding to be less childlike and more intriguing, mature and dynamic. The new Beastly Books logo suite is immediately intriguing with its beastly characteristics and imaginative feel.

The beastly hands featured in some of the logo variations are an element pulled from the old branding. However, instead of featuring the beast’s face like the previous logo, we intentionally only featured the beasts hands and added in some other subtle/general beastly elements like the tail and horns, so that the actual beast character could be left up to the imagination of the viewer.

The serif font used is timeless and classic with a twist of curiosity with its added elements. The letters are customized and placed in a way that feels purposeful and communal.

The different frame shapes used throughout the logo variations are like windows or portals into a different reality that we often find ourselves lost in when we are reading a good book. They can also be interpreted as the doors to the beast’s next chapter of his story.

The small spark shape used throughout hints back to the spark of curiosity that is ignited when we are reading or when we see an intriguing new book on the shelf by an author we love.
